How To Rock The Pantone Colour Of 2018

As we know, each year, the Pantone colour institute renders its verdict on what the colour of the year will be. Not surprising, given the fact that the colour that took the crown this year has been spotted on numerous collections during fashion weeks, including the iconic Gucci, whose collection features not only 'sprinkles' but head-to-toe ultra violet looks. As Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the institute explains it 'We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination, and that is what the powerful colour stands for. New victories, bold and brave beginnings as well as mysteriousness of the cosmos, it's all presented in this fierce and poignant mixture of blue and red.

We completely agree with their observation.Yes, this is truly one of the most provocative colour's, and in order to rock it, one does need a certain dose of audacity, which we could all stand the have in larger quantities. So, now that we are in the know, the question is - how do we rock it? Yes, runway models can get away with head-to-toe outfits, but we mere mortals have to take a more strategic approach. After all, we are going for a bold, but not comedic look, so let's find the safest approach towards making the strongest impact.

Always a good way to start
When dipping your feet into the violet ocean, it’s best to start small. To that end, one of the best ways to kick off the season of hope and power which the colour stands for, is with something completely and utterly winter-y – a simple quality sweater. The cut is of course, your choice entirely, but if you do want to get the most of the look, you will definitely go with a mid-length sweater, simply because it gives you plenty of choices in the mix-and-match department. You can wear it with a long white button-down, alone with a pair of jeans, under a checkered blazer, with a pleated skirt for a soft romantic look – the possibilities are endless

Taking it up a notch

When you’re ready for a larger level of the color’s presence and dominance in a single outfit, why not go with a garment that is an entire outfit? It’s safe to say that this colour can be somewhat uncooperative with other colour's, so in order to avoid mistakes, opt for a dress. It’s definitely the simplest thing you can pull out of your closet, and you don’t need to rack your brain when coming up with an outfit. In addition to that, given that florals have made a huge comeback, the combination might provide a perfect mixture of boldness and softness, particularly if your choice of length is below-the-knee. While the temperatures are down, be sure to bring back the jeans and dress look back, and once actual flowers start blossoming, bust out the pumps and ditch the denim.

The retro vibe
Although we know that there is little chance that jeans will ever go out of style, perhaps you could let them rest for a while and take a walk down memory lane with a retro pair of ultra violet high-rise velvet pants. This way you’ll be combining the retro vibe of the cut with the super-trendy velvet fabric, so you don’t risk looking outdated. The best way to rock these pants is with a simple black button-down and a neck scarf (for a touch of that French-adjacent timeless elegance). Finally, top it all off with some of the finest Italian leather bags for balance, as you want to keep the accessories neutral when playing with such conspicuous colour's.

Tiny but impactful
As previously said, our accessories tell quite the story. There will be days when you will want to feel the empowerment coursing through your veins as you flaunt your ultra violet coat but, on the other days, you’ll want a touch of that positive energy with minimal usage of colour. That’s exactly when jewelry steps onto the stage. Minimalistic dark jeans and a black turtleneck sweater look can be fantastically complemented with a pair of tassel earrings, and don’t you worry about looking too understated – there is absolutely no chance of that happening when this colour is present in any amount. You take your time, and incorporate it one piece at a time. Soon, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.
